General question to all users, the app now requires location turned on in order to be able to connect to the car.
No Idea why its in the Bluetooth connection point but the obvious uses for location are the Free Adverts (to provide targeted adverts) and Parts Market where it will show your current location by default.
I have two questions, Firstly when using my VPN the adverts change and it is often obvious that they are for the country I am connected to. However the Parts Market seems to use a different source as it shows my actual location not that of the VPN Server.
Has anybody got any idea what else the location is used for.
Second and more important question for me is:
Do you have any delays in logging on to the car if there are lots of Bluetooth devices near or just in general.
I have seen a number of people complaining that it can take a very long time (5 plus minutes) before the dongle turns blue and allows you to connect, personally I have seen it on rare occasions but limited to less than a minute and wondered if others were having issues with connections.
If you are having issues can you please quote your android or IOS version number.
Thanks in advance.

1. Basically with android you can be somewhat tracked when connected via Bluetooth and i guess thats why google added that the location is needed to remind the user "your information may be leaked" On iPhone it is better coded in that perspective and dont leak that info over Bluetooth connection. with that said dont know if Voltas use the location information to gather any extra information. If you wanna read more www.polidea.com/blog/a-curious-relationship-android-ble-and-location/2. I only have the first gen, but the amount of Bluetooth devices around doesn't slow the speed of the first connection, however if my phone/tablet is connected to my car or something else over Bluetooth then my first gen is very slow to connect or fails to connect.

ViĆRegarding your second point: I've not experienced any delays when my phone was connected to the car radio via bluetooth to listen to music. Only tested it with nextgen device.

General question to all users, the app now requires location turned on in order to be able to connect to the car... ... Hi
Wasn't it always necessary (in the past) to activate location permission in the OBDeleven app? I guess so? By the way, this has long been a constant point of criticism in various Internet forums.

I had just forgotten about it till i saw the many complaints about connection delays, like Thirsty i have not had the issue but it may be i connect to device before the radio.
I have also asked support why they need location lets see what they say

I have had that "issue" since day one (May 2018), took me a little while in the beginning to figure out the problem and thought it was my phone(Huawei) that couldn't handle 2 Bluetooth devices, Even with my tablet(Xiaomi) it doesn't work and lastly few months back I changed phones(OnePlus) which has the latest Android and has the same "issue". Safe to say its the first gen, either its all of the first gen's or just mine.
it doesn't really bother me to do the 3-4 seconds check that my phone isn't connected to any other devices before I connect to the first gen, so I haven't bothered to make a warranty claim.

Don't think you are alone all the guys who complained were on first gen.
Need to do some testing and see if this is a benefit of Next Gen.

and just to complete support came back today and confirmed the following
The Location is needed for google, Not us. This is google policy
I have tested today using the new beta software and it gives me the same results as 26.1 in that new dongle is fractionally faster but not a lot. I have connected to radio first and still no issues but it may be that you have lots of Bluetooth action going on.
Anyway the release notes for beta is about fixing a specific issue with Bluetooth so hopefully many users will be happier - no change for me.
