Audi S8 02. Trying to code a new battery (have the BEM code) no luck. Have a couple of tutorials on hand, no luck. There's no "battery management" module but, I should (?) be able to do it via "gateways" but I have no gateways lol. No "auto-code gateways" either and my "pencil" that's supposed to be red, is grey/white/not red so doesn't bring up the gateway selection window when pushed-poked. Any help?

abstemious I presume you are using Android phone (as I don't think IOS Has auto gateways), are you saying that from the main car menu when you select control units that you don't have the battery management module and that the green square is not there to allow you to add a control unit. May I ask what color the control unit numbers are in is it white if so then its offline and you cant add them in. If its green / yellow / red then you are online but the app is not working (if you dont have the add new control unit button. That being the case first thing I would do is clear cache and data from app in android. If that still dont work then remove and re-install and see what that does.

Hi, no there's no battery management present and the "pencil" to add control modules won't respond. The modules are usually green, sometimes red... things like "engine 2" change from black to green but I'm unable to access that module, "check ignition". I will do as you suggest, thank you.

Deleted and resintalled the app, no change. At no point do I see a red whatever it is, to edit gateways. So, pay to get my battery coded or pay for another system to do what really shouldn't be that dang hard.

Android. I dunno, could be me... but have tried following every tutorial I can find, doesn't conform to what I see. Other wierd things, I have ABS and EDS(?) lights on, and no codes.

abstemious: I've been reading your dialogue with testeronline with intrigue and interest! Is there any chance that you could post-up a picture of the troublesome screens? A picture is worth a thousand words !!! Don

Sorry couple pics of the setup My bad I thought it was a Green circle with white plus sign but as you say red circle with white pen. So does the pen bring up the full list.
Control Unit Screen, Pencil shown to add

Have you made any changes to the car using OBD11 Before the errors started showing (if so it would help Don if you could give details via the history review along with I suspect a scan)
Under settings / home screen do you have Autocode gateway list set to Show (as this should bring up any missing control units)

^^^testeronline: thanks for posting-up the pic - it would be helpful to see the same pic from abstemious.
As you know, the Gateway module @ address hex19 is a very important module on the car's CAN network because it controls ALL communication access from the other modules to the various CAN buses. The Gateway module also controls comms from the car's OBD port - but it uses the installation list on your screen (the ticked modules) to select which modules are authorized to speak and to receive messages from the CAN facility.
Unless abstemious's car is not working, I very much doubt that the Gateway module is the problem here because if the Installation List genuinely can't be accessed by the Gateway module, the car would simply not be operational!!
Rather, I'm guessing that this is an issue related to how OBDeleven is interacting with the car's diagnostic port - a set-up problem with the OBD11 software - perhaps?

Sorry I'm late, do appreciate the help. I was asked for pics, here's a few not exactly sure what I should be screen shot'ing tho. Yes, the car "works" and so does the obdeleven, just that I haven't been able to do anything but basic scan and clear. Would really like to code the bat and do steering angle, but basically, save for a step by step or a gateway working... ok I don't want to be negative here I see a lot of how-to for that other system, not much for this one. I'm not sure my car would be able to not "allow" appearance of the gateways, seems odd, no? The car was entered into the system via vin, btw.

abstemious: do you see the gateway module on your scan report - perhaps post up a copy like this: when you receive the email, copy-and-paste the contents here Don

Ok sorry again for the delay, was fixing other things etc. Here's a copy of that email, no gateways but am kind of over that. I have been attempting to extrapolate from "other" data... coding > basic settings > steering angle. Would it be inappropriate to post that info here? Apparently need to code my abs module first, but the ABS code that I need to input is already showing, so I click "write" and I get an error. Btw this for some reason doesn't show codes but I have them, steering angle and angle rotation sensor. Thanks

^ ^^ Wow - that's a very remarkable car indeed; 2002 vintage with only 15,647 KM on the clock. Amazing!!
I'm also very puzzled by the lack of a hex19 module? Considering that it's the Gateway module, itself that provides the scan report it's real odd that it hasn't reported its own details. Real odd ?

Didn't notice that. The od says 156101.... is the last digit 1/10 of a mile/km? Man I have to check that, I thought surely it was 156K. Anyway, I gave up on the gateways... just want to code that steering angle/abs module via coding/basic settings. I guess if I don't figure it out soon will spend for the other thing.

Maybe it's a funky module? Fake? Was ebay, after all. And yes, 156K miles, no idea where that came from.

^^ ^^abstemious: Now that you ask the question about 1/10 - I think that I recall reading that some early model Audis do indeed report 1/10 mileage (in kms) in scan reports . Don

That would have been great... not a first edition either, too bad. Guess I'm not going to get 10K for it

Geeze Louise, no one can help me do a G85 steering angle with obd11? Coding: I need to input the new code, which is the same as the old code... won't (re) write? Spinning progress indicator just goes and goes for an hour and never actually gets re-written. I'm missing a trick there? Also read about the need to input work code (have a couple to try), don't see where's to do that part either. The order of operations is code the brake module and then basic settings for the angle calibration. Haven't been able to get any of these steps to woyke. Login Note #1: After Login has been carried out you need to Recode the control module then perform the Steering Angle Sensor Calibration. Do NOT exit the Control Module in between the individual steps. Note #2: For Audi A8 (4D) always use 4 as Selection for Brakes. Note #3: The Production Codes (PR-Code) such as 1LX can be found on a Sticker near the Spare Tire Well and/or the 1st Page of the Service Manual. Click here to see an Example of a Sticker. 0?xxx: Chassis 5 = Audi A8 (4D) 7 = Audi A6 (4B) 9 = Audi A4 ( ) / VW Passat (3B) 0x?xx: Brakes 3 = FNRG-60 (Teves/ATE) [PR-1LA/1LG] 4 = FN2/HP2 (Dual-Piston) [PR-1LX] & Brembo [PR-1ZL] 5 = FN3 (Teves/ATE) [PR-1LB/1LE/1LF/1LT/1ZC] 6 = C54 (Lucas) [PR-1LZ] 0xx?x: Engine 5 = 4/6/8 Cyl.
