On this forum and across multiple forums I have seen people who have used the Factory Reset button.
Because,
Hit it in error Thought it would undo all the changes they had made Fix problems with one click.
Bottom line it leaves the owners who have done this is a lot of pain and hard work to get the car back to full function
Can we please remove this function or add it in to the Settings section with setting as Hide and user has to change it to show and then get a big warning that this is dangerous.
Just to update I am putting in links to threads on this site when I see them having done this

And just to add to this, just had another user doing this on a Spanish site doing this to his brakes.
I think this function should be hidden away but as another option can the history tab show the long coding that was on the car before you wipe it all out. At least that way they could quickly restore the long coding. Or another option would be to display a message saying this will wipe out all your settings do you want to run a backup on this control unit first, and if they have not done it they can say yes....

Function name could be different ("Memory wipe out" maybe?) since we all are using "reset to factory defaults" in out consumer electronics and expect the device to reset our changes and be set back to parameters that it left the factory with. Instead we get module without coding, adaptations, basic settings... Clear info/warning message would also be nice.

I've already forwarded this directly to the team. They'll respond to this soon.

Thirsty, @obdeleven I know this has been reported but I will keep updating this thread so its clear how much damage it does to the user community. It will also hopefully serve as a warning to other users to not use this function unless they understand how to get out of the mess it causes
Today on one of my Spanish Forums another poor sole has reported getting in a mess and thinking that the reset function will sort out his issues. He will now be spending a lot of time trying to recover the car.

I suspect that nothing has been done about this problem thus far because the way that these features appear to users is the way that VW/Audi/Seat originally designed the options in the module firmware; so there is no distinction between the factory reset option and the other options on the OBD11 screen. The module options however were originally written for the dealer ODIS tool and this was correctly predicated on 2 x fundamental assumptions; first, the person behind the ODIS screen was a trained "master-tech" and secondly, the person selecting the factory reset option had access to FAZIT (the central database for MQB vehicles) and also had access to the "guided functions" for the myriad of other basic settings processes needed to re-parametrize the module.
These 2 x fundamental assumptions that the module designers originally made are of course incorrect when the person behind the screen is an OBD11 user!!
Hence the need for OBD11 developers to do something different - quickly!!!
However and again, with the deepest respect to your suggestions - I'm not sure that the 2 x "other options" are a suitable alternative to your far better "first" suggestion.
I certainly agree that it's long overdue that OBD11 software treats the factory reset option very differently to other settings because of the severe ramifications - and yes your other options do allow the user to have access to the previous long-code string. But - getting access to the long-code string is only one of the steps to re-parametrize the Brake module- there is also the problem of successfully completing the basic setting procedures!
better to just add multiple "are you sure that you want to do this" warnings and to dragoon this option away from the other settings in the OBD11 screen - IMO!

Add me to the stupid list Have reset brake module to factory thinking it would do just that and now have all sorts of errors in multiple modules Off to VW for reprogramming on Monday Hopefully just reprogramming Brakes will fix the other modules otherwise it’s going to cost me more As another thought what is the difficulty in having a button called UNDO last change or reset to previous setting Surely this is not something that couldn’t be programmed and changed via an update

Reply from OBD about my message below
Customer message: Hi<br />May I give my opinion on an option that you should include for your customers <br />Since the system can make changes to your cars computers, what is the difficulty in programming an option to UNDO a change or revert back to a previous change<br />Not everyone is technically qualified to use the OBDELEVEN and costly errors can be and are made, myself included<br />This option would be something I can’t see anyone not appreciating and surely it would not be difficult to do on your end<br />Please consider<br />Angelo

I’ll echo this sentiment. I inadvertently factory reset the Immobilizer (25) module on my 2011 MK6 GTI. I can start and drive the car but remote entry (unlock with key fob) doesn’t work, and the Comfort Systems module (46) which I believe is where I add the keys back in, won’t respond. If anyone has any suggestions let me know …
