What does the urban joke app do?

What does the urban joke app do? It's the " kencha" tail lights, v2 alternates inner and outer tail lights when you have the turn indicator on. V1 is the same, but the inner stays dimly lit even when it's not its turn. There is a video in the kencha tail light thread

I am familiar with the Kencha tweak and variations thereof. I'm glad I asked first before trying this because I have my own custom tail light tweak which is a subset of the Kencha (nothing fancy).

App not working for me, "not supported" shows up when I try it? If your adaptation values doesn't mach standard values (original tail lights adaptations) then you will get message not supported. So if you have made any modifications with your tail lights you must revert to original values first.

I have not made any modification to rear tail lights. How would I be able to find the stock values? I'm trying to get v1 to work I am from Canada with a base model trend line tsi golf.

Djvic:I hope that I'm not stealing Admin's thunder in responding to your post - this is not my intention!!
I'm not sure how this App was implemented, but the stock values for the 4 (or 5 if the "option" has been included in the App) x Leuchte-sets that are involved in this tweak will differ depending on what type of tail-light assemblies were factory fitted (i.e. incandescent, or LED) and whether your car is RoW (Rest of World), or NAR (North American Region). Just to explain: a "Leuchte-set" is a "parent" adaptation channel that determines the way that one of the 35 x exterior lights on a mk7 will operate. Each "Leuchte-set" is associated with 19 x "children" adaptation channels that contain specific settings (or instructions) for the lamp's behaviour. It's these settings that the UrbanJoke tweak changes.
If you want to see the way that these stock values differ from various mk7 models from around the world, I've created a spreadsheet that contains the full list of all the adapatation channels for the control module that this tweak uses below (there are upward of 2,500 adaptation channels in this control module - so it's a pretty-big list!!): www.dropbox.com/s/2vhp4musw51b148/BCM_Compare_8_8.xlsx?dl=0
The UrbanJoke tweak (as originally written) modifies the following "Leuchte-sets"
Leuchte20BR LA71 - Left Outer Tail Leuchte21BR RC8 - Right Outer Tail Leuchte23SL HLC10 - Left Inner Tail Leuchte24SL HRA65 - Right Inner Tail Optional: Leuchte27NSL RC6 - Side outer LED(s) (Disabled)
So- To find the default factory settings for your car, do the following: 1. Download my spreadsheet onto your laptop/PC. 2. use the "find" facility in Excel to identify the 1st. channel listed above (there are 19 x adaptation channels for each entry in my list above) and check-out the default value for a car in my spreadsheet that most resembles your car 3. repeat the exercise for each of the Leuchte-sets in my list above.
Hope that this all makes sense- it does to me (but then, I'm an unapologetic self confessed geek)!!

^^^^^^^ divsec: Excellent question- well worth asking for anyone intending to change the lighting arrangement in their car (regardless of the country)!
My answer alas is that I don't know - I'm from Australia (a colony of the UK)! When I developed the DV52-tails, I checked our local laws (Australian Design Rules) and it's not clear down here if these types of changes are legal - our local rules are so arcane that it's difficult to judge - the ADRs just don't contemplate many of the changes that are possible with Leuchte programming!
I would strongly suggest that anyone implementing these tweaks do their own research and make their own decision on this matter - before they implement the App (for urbanjoke, Kencha-tail, DV52-tails etc.). Fact is that neither OBD11 or the originator of the tweak is responsible for your implementation of these Apps - the only person that is responsible (and therefore, accountable) is the cable/dongle user. Great topic, love the product so far. To sort of high jack this thread I've got a 2015 Gti and my wife has a 2016 Gti. I did Urban joke app on my car no problems. Attempted my wife's right after and it tried loading for along time and then notifies that the app failed. Now I am not able to use the urban joke app on her car. It simply states not supported. What are my options to fix this. I've had the program need to be reopened when scanning and such be for. Could this had an effect on the apps programming? Thx

Thx Hemodypsea: As a matter of principle, I've not tried using any OBD11 Apps!! I prefer to implement tweaks manually - so I always know what individual changes are being made to my car!! However from the few discussions that I've had with the ubiquitous and mysterious "Admin", I believe that the first thing that Apps do is to check the existing settings on the car to ascertain whether the tweak is compatible with the car's fittings. I suspect that this might be the confounder for your wife's vehicle. Do both cars have the same taillight fittings?
As for your specific question, if you are serious about implementing this tweak on your wife's car then you could implement the changes via the manual process. I've written instructions for Urban Joke tweak (at another forum colleague's request) which you can find HERE. But make sure that you confirm the compatibility of the tweak and please proceed carefully through the instructions (which are long)!!

Has anyone tried this on UK car with normal bulbs (not led)? bakii: I wouldn't recommend Urban Joke tweak on a Rest-of-World (RoW) vehicle because they have the separate orange turn signal on incandescent taillight fittings. This tweak was designed (I beleive) for North-American-Region (NAR) models that don't have this turn signal lamp. I've developed a similar tweak (appropriately called "DV52 tails") for incandescent ROW taillight fittings which you might want to consider. Don

^^^^ bakii: Hmm......... that's strange!!!! I designed DV52 tails specifically for RoW mk7s with incandescent taillight fittings! We get the same cars down here in Australia that you guys have in the UK - and the tweak works on my car (which has incandescent tails). What's special about the tails in your car? Did you use the OBD11 App, or did you implement the tweak manually? If you used the App, try doing it manually instead (I don't trust Apps). You will find my original instructions for DV52 tails HEREDon

bakili: OK, I don't think the problem is with my tweak because I've implemented it on my RoW mk7 and I can vouch that it works! Only suggestion is to check the default settings for the adaptation channels in my instructions against the values on your car. If you have confirmed that the tweak is compatible with your 2013 Estate/Wagon, make the changes manually (and save yourself 10 credits)

Many thanks again Don. The only reason I want to use app as it will be easy to convert back to standard . The more I use obd11 the more I gain understanding. Main concern not to f*** it up with all settings. If I manually change values according to your sheet, will I be able to reset it back to standard with app future?

^^^^^ What a excellent question - I don't know! I assume that "undoing" the App simply searches that the settings are as they should be if the tweak was implemented. There's no way that OBD11 can leave a tag in the module - so my guess is YES. Can ADMIN confirm - please?
But the App shouldn't be needed because all the changes that you made will be in your HISTORY file.
It's just a confidence thing! Just be careful choosing the channels and the settings and you will be OK - perhaps have someone else with you when you make the changes to double-check.

Hi Don Sorry to be pain. Today finally decided to bite bullet and apply DV52 mod. Printed instruction on channels, first checked if I can easily locate adaptation channels and started changing values according to spreadsheet. After changing all values, pressed green button "do it" and following error message appeared on OBD11.

Also noticed that Leuchte 21BR RC8 Dimmwert CD21 is set to 35. Tried to change it to 28 but wouldn't do it.

^ ^^^^^^ bakili: Hi. Not seen the "7F" message before, but it looks like you have selected the incorrect option from the change service panel (see below). Just switch-off and restart OBD11 and you should get back into the correct default diagnostic mode Don't worry about Leuchte 21BR RC8 Dimmwert CD21 being a different value - it simply means that the lamp is illuminated to a brighter level when the brake light operates as a parking light. What services should I select from change services menu. I never touched it before "change services". bakili: Hello again - let's not make this the longest thread in the forum (just joking)!!
OK, on more serious note - as I said, I have not encountered this error message before. So in an attempt to understand more about your error, I tried to duplicated the message on my test-bench. As you may have guessed, I'm a bit "geeky" where OBDII (not my shorthand description "OBD11") is concerned. So I've made-up a rudimentary "virtual mk7" that consists of 3 x control modules, a power supply, a simulated set of headlights/taillights and an OBDII socket, The test-bench looks like this:
As the name implies, I use the test-bench as a teaching tool for students who want to learn more about Leuchte programming. Hasn't been broken yet despite some very strange programing that students have tried to enter into the BCM (what OBD11 calls "Central electrics")
Anyhow, for your purpose, I hooked-up my OBD11 dongle to the test-bench and then I selected various Change Service settings to see if I could replicate your error. Guess what - see below?
From my attempts at trying different settings on the test-bench, I find that the following seems to work when changing coding - I have no idea why because I don't understand the meaning of the settings. Perhaps Admin can explain?
Now I'm not saying that this is your problem, I'm just suggesting that I can replicate your 7F error message by selecting one of the settings on the Change service screen
