Golf 7 R 2020 4-Motion
Does anybody have an idea why the STG 17 has an All Wheel Drive listed as "off" - or why is it listed there at all? What does it do? I thought STG17 is primarily for the Dashboard Display?
My all wheel drive appears to working just fine, so I’m only a little irritated to find it in STG 17. I would expect adjustments for it rather in STG 22.

Mostly this is about a reserved bit having no function behind it.
Automotive control units and their parameters and software are developed for years before release and maintained afterwards for years.
There are some reasons for this: * There was a requirement for something including 4WD info which was never realized in the end * There was a possible idea to degrade a function when 4WD throws an error into the bus (or to display a specific error which needs to watch a datagram instead of just giving a generic error)
I think you can activate it and check if this triggers any error and revert it. But as the usage of it is unknown, I would rather suggest to never change a running system

Thank you newty ! I was going to try it out tomorrow and report back to you guys. But with your advice and me still getting the hang of coding, I trust it’s best to change as little as possible - or only that which one understands. I shall continue to work my way up then. From adjusting the speedometer display to punching in 30 colour codes to adjusting the AWD, I may just fool around with the settings in the near future and report back to you guys. Thanks!

newty: You are probably correct - but maybe the reason for the hex17 software switch is much more pragmatic: perhaps the reason is that VW make (made in the past?) a version of the Haldex system in some world markets that uses a specific AWD facility that is on the dashboard - like a warning symbol on the instrument cluster for AWD errors (and the software switch enables the lamp that illuminated the symbol). As to OP's question as to why software switch is factory set to OFF, I agree with what I think that you are saying - which is that this is likely because the particular AWD software in the car doesn't use the AWD facility in the hex17 module.
