Hi, my son has a 2004 A6 Allroad and issues with intermittent startup issues. Basically the car runs fine and after a couple of weeks it won't start anymore, the engine turns over strong and nothing seems to be amiss. The shop had switched the ECU against a used one (cloning it) and after a few weeks the car started to have the same issue.
The weird thing is, the shop scans the car with their fancy Ross-Tech VCDS , clears all codes and the car starts right up and runs fine again for a couple weeks.
I got me first a standard Bosch scanner and read 2 codes, cleared them but the car wouldn't start, after towing it to the shop, they cleared whatever other codes there were and the car started up again.
Now I got the ODBeleven Pro version and attempted the same thing, when it happened here this week.
But my ODBeleven has issues scanning to the end of the 24 modules, it gets stuck in Navigation... then I can't cancel it on my phone, I have to exit the app. However there is no Navigation, and the other modules after that seem to be not very important for the startup behavior.
So I stopped the scan just just of Navigation, at this point in time I have around 13 issues... some indicate some communication issue to the ECU, I clear the codes but the car still doesn't start up.
Am I basically at the end of the line and have to purchase a Ross-Tech VCDS ... or can someone help ...
Also the shop tells me, maybe I want a brnad new ECU, however this still might not fix the issue... price point for a brand new ECU is $1400, which is a little steep, without the guaranty that it will fix the issue. If I can get the ODBeleven to do the job of clearing whatever codes preventing the car to start, my son could life with that...
Thanks Jens
