Hello everyone, I was hoping I could get some help with an issue I’m having with my car. 2016 Golf R. About two weeks ago I got in my car and started it up and I think every error light that could come on came on. That’s never happened before, never even had any real issues with the car. As soon as I drove off they cleared so I wasn’t sure what had happened. It happened again a few more times a few days later so I started checking forums and it seemed like my issue was the battery. It’s the original battery so that made sense. It tested low with a voltmeter so I replaced with a new DieHard H5-AGM, 60 amp hour, the original was also an AGM. This did not solve my issues so I did more research and found info on coding with my OBD11. I changed the settings ( in the Battery Adaption section) for the new amp hour as suggested, changed one number in the serial to a 0 and have since tried the AGM-Binary and the Fleece settings. No luck. I’ve tried clearing the codes all at once after the scan, as well as individually in the Control Modules. Still no luck. Most of the errors say Databus error value received. Any ideas on what to try next or does this sound like a trip to the dealership? Also, any thoughts on the Battery VooDoo option to reset all sensors? Attachments:history.txt (117.97 KB)

txmk7r: Am I missing something? Your latest scan ( Mileage: 61745 km) after you made the battery channel changes is error free!! Try just driving the car - I suspect that the lights on the clock dial will go-out after a short drive. Don

I may need to pull a new history log, I still have all of the lights on. I've been on two drives recently, both over an hour. The lights come and go as I'm driving, almost constantly. Yesterday I had by OBDeleven plugged in trying to clear the codes and as fast as I could clear them, they just kept coming back in over and over.

I just noticed this and wonder if it's my issue. I changed it to Binary-AGM originally because I pulled out the factory AGM battery but it looks like the original setting was EFB.
Adaptation Control unit: 19 Gateway Name: Battery adaptation Values: Rated battery capacity: Old value: 59 Ah New value: 69 Ah Battery technology: Old value: EFB New value: Binary - AGM Battery serial number: Old value: 1111111111 New value: 111q111111 Mileage: 61607 km Date: 2021-04-10 17:11

doesn't matter - what's important is the setting is FLEECE now - which assuming that the new battery is correctly AGM is the correct value

Well I’ve tried everything I could get info on. I’ve done the battery adaptation in OBDeleven, I’ve cleared all of the codes and driven the car multiple times but I have the same 3 codes returning now and not clearing. Yesterday I disconnected the battery leads and shorted them together for 24 hours to see if that would reset all of my sensors but it didn’t make a difference. It looks like I’m in for a trip to the dealership. My car is under 40k miles, if this speaks to VW reliability and the fact that I can’t perform minor repairs without a trip to the dealership, I’ll be getting out of this car very soon.

That error in your screenshot is the steering angle sensor (it's called G85) not initialized.
Try this: - Turn-on ignition with engine running
- Go to the Steering Assistance module @ address hex44
- select Live Data
- navigate to Steering Angle sensor, angle and select
- rotate the steering wheel so that the steering angle measurement on OBD11 screen is as close to zero as possible (steering wheel centered)
- Back on the hex44 main screen, select security code
- enter the magic number 19249 (see note)
- Select Basic settings
- Select Steering angle sensor, initialization
- run the procedure and if it doesn't automatically stop, leave running for about 60 seconds, then stop manually
- exit out of OBD11 and cycle ignition
- The 3 x errors will still appear - but they should clear after a short drive
note: I'm guessing that the correct security code is 19249 and it should be accepted (I can't remember if this is correct for this procedure)- if this doesn't work, try 28183

It is!. 2nd time I had it exactly at ZERO when I started the process too. I had high hopes but it is what it is. Thank you for all of the advice and if you think of anything else I can try, I'm open to any and all advice.

So quick update. I ran the steering angle initialization again today and it seemed to work. This was the first time the steering wheel moved on it's own during the process but the errors still return as soon as I drive off. I pulled anew scan and Control Module 44 comes back as Intermittent now. All of the errors below still come in as Static so I'll start to address them one by one I guess.

Hey Don I was hoping you could please help me. I installed my battery in backwards. Recharged it, replaced some fuses, all set now. However my steering wheel is still locked and I’m getting some codes on my dash. I was wondering what I could do as clearing these codes is not working.
