......... so at night the mirror is dimmed all the time while driving, nothing to do with the lights from the car behind................................. hmm............OK - so the frameless mirror is the same as the original OEM mirror in that they both have the "nighttime sensor" as I described. I've no doubt that there is always some tinting when it's nighttime- but it's difficult to believe that the frameless mirror tint doesn't vary with the amount of glare from cars lights at the rear. This is the entire point of using anti-glare mirrors. The original OEM mirror does modulate the darkening effect with the amount of light coming from the rear of the car. It uses the second light-sensor and the switch to do this.
I would expect that the frameless mirror to do the same (again, this is the reason for anti-glare mirrors) - but I would expect that in the "frameless" mirror (i.e. which has the exterior light-sensor and switch removed from the frame), the anti-glare effect is achieved by placing the second sensor behind the mirror glass - in an area that is behind semi transparent mirror.
