My car is a 3.2l 2008 TT-S Line Roadster with approx 119k miles. My convertible top will go down with the hydraulic motor but will not go back up unless I manually raise the top. I had been told my pump motor could be bad or my fluid level could be low. I replaced the motor and topped off the hydraulic fluid but neither has helped. It was suggested to me that my side flap motors could be bad but they both go up and down on their own as they should so I don't think they are the issue. Would there be a sensor issue by chance? Where would the sensor be located? Hoping someone else has run into this issue and could point me in the right direction. I ordered this OBD tool, which shows there is a fault (26), but not much else. Pulling my hair out here looking for the issue... Thank you so much in advance!

This is a typical failure due to problems with the roof flap servo. You can read more about how to resolve this issue in the UK TT Forum, see link below. Generally, the grease used to lubricate the gears migrates on to the 'sensor' which is just a potentiometer. When this happens, the roof flap servo creates an 'implausible' signal, meaning a voltage range outside the expected range. The convertible top control module will then disable the console switch to prevent automatic operation as it no longer 'knows' where the roof flaps are in relation to the frame and is preventing a collision between the two. This is why you have to manually open/close the top. If you follow the link below, you can find an additional post on how to remove, clean and re-install the flap servos. It's a very easy DIY, but it does require an Adaptation in order to clear the fault and 'teach' the CM the new voltage max-min values - FAQ – The Ultimate Audi TT Mk2 (8J) Roadster Compendium www.ttforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1813258How to: Audi TT Mk2 (8J) Convertible Top Flap Servo R&R www.ttforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=1786641
