Hi all,
Have just got an obd eleven dongle tonight and started to play around with it. After i made the change to the TMC trafffic and it saved the adaptation, I stupidly (yes I'm a newbie and an idiot) unplugged/plugged the dongle in whilst the ignition was still on to see if it was seated properly. I then heard a sparking sound as if something was shorted out. I immediately shut off the car and started it up again. Good news is, the car starts. However the bad news is that there is now an Electronic parking brake fault and a lighting fault. Both those modules weren't coded or touched via the app. Can no longer pair the dongle with the app as I suspect it is broken ( something is rattling inside now when I shake it).
I'm organising to get a new dongle so that I can do a thorough scan and hopefully clear the two error codes. questions: 1) do you think any car modules got a power surge via the obd port and I screwed the car up? 2) do you think the two faults are real or phantom due to the glitch?
Car is a 2017 mk7 VW Golf 1.4L TSI Australian delivered. Thanks in advance. .

I've sorted out the problem. The obd eleven dongle is damaged inside, blown diode. And also sc8 fuse (10a) in the interior fuse box was blown. This circuit is for diagnostics, rotary switch for light, light and rain sensor and park brake switch. Replaced fuse and every thing is good again.
There are also other fuses which protect the diagnostics which are shared with other devices so the car may exhibit weird symptoms when the fuse is blown. Thanks VW for putting in safeguards to prevent expensive damage.

Yes had similar problem when I used OBD2 memory saver. The source is small 12V motorcycle battery. Accidentally touched positive cable that goes from battery with tool and short circuited it. Saw a spark. When starting up same two messages. On starting up lights stayed on, parking brake was off got this message on the screen and OBDeleven dongle would not connect.
Googled and found out I had blown the SC5 10amp fuse It is in left of 2amp fuse on the Golf R 2015. Was very relieved that I could get OBDeleven dongle connectothen cleared the faults. Once cleared the system returned to normal. For future battery changes I will connect using jumper cables to the battery cables when disconnecting. I set the last digit on the battery S/N using Gateway 19 Battery Adaptations. Now battery is 13.5 to 13.6 volts and charging when engine is running.
