Hi [Admin] Can you please reach out to me via PM or email to let me know what, if any changes need to be made to our Official UrbanJoke Tweaks Google Doc, for consistency's sake? I don't want any inconsistencies between the obd11 forums/app and our documentation. Thanks I want to say a big thanks for jdmk7 and dv52, both for such a great tail light mod and for saving my bacon after a not so successful service on my mkvii GTI (NAR). OBD had shown an error code for one of the lights, saying it was shorted although the light still worked. The VW service guys addressed this by getting a new control module but managed to do something odd to both sets of taillights when they installed it (couldn't really get details from the front office) so then they also replaced both taillight enclosures. When I got the car back the settings were urbanjoke v2 on the left but a mess on the right. Since the settings were messed up I couldn't use the app to go back to stock or reset to one of the custom sets. With the very nice google docs spreadsheet and only making one or two teensy mistakes myself I was able to get it coded so everything was back to the way I wanted. Many many thanks to you two and the community.

I'm new with this, how do I get to CONTROL UNITS?

I'm new with this, how do I get to CONTROL UNITS? delawareguy: Hi - good question!
First, switch-on the ignition (engine not running) and plug in the OBD11 dongle. Give it a few seconds for the dongle to settle down in its new environment, Then fire-up the OBD11 App and press Connect. Depending on the speed of your ISP and the speed of the Bluetooth connection, the App will upload the car's information, then it will send this info to OBD11 head office and it will return the correct database into your mobile phone/tablet (this can take a while).
When you get the screen shot below, you can scan the vehicle for fault codes, or if you want to go directly to the control modules - press the blue circle with the three lines (lower Right-side)
You should then get a screen shot showing a list of the control modules in your vehicle like the picture below. The modules are listed in the order of their "address" (the number in the circle on the upper Right side of each module), so scroll down for more control modules.
The thing that you should note is the colour of the circle with the number on each control module: If it's green- then everything is OK and the module is very happy, if it's red, then you have errors in the modules, it it's black, then the module isn't registered with the Gateway
From this screen shot, simply select the module that you want - that's how "I get to CONTROL UNITS"

Tried both versions. Nothing would work. I guess I'll have to go in and manually make the changes if I want it. If anyone figures out why it's not working for me let me know. If your adaptation values doesn't mach standard values (original tail lights adaptations) then you will get message not supported. So if you have made any modifications with your tail lights you must revert to original values first. Half of the apps say not supported? Why?

I’ve had faults in modules I’ve never gone into. I had a “steering column communication” error and I’ve not changed anything regarding to that. I have bulb out errors in central electrics (but I think it’s from my helix headlights) should I be concerned by these other faults?

^^^ As a general rule, never ignore error messages. That said, some errors are more important than others - the "priority" number in the error message (if present) gives you an indication of the importance of the fault (according to VW's definition). But if it was my car, I'd want to be fairly certain as to what's causing the error message!

Alas, I am a complete newb. Apologies for the paucity of information. Last time I did any of this was on my MINI 10 years ago. NAR-North America? US Alltrack wagon Standard incandescent bulbs. No error messages. The app just says Not Supported. Just tried the app to program. I assume I will have to get into the tweaks or program to implement this feature? As for the meaning of life...getting closer to that one...but then I run out of home-brew and have to start over. Thanks. Steve Steve: Ain't nothing wrong with being a "complete newb"- I consider myself to be one one as well compared to the awesome expertise of some on this forum (notwithstanding the overly generous and very kind words from Daniel)! And thanks for the additional information- the extra data simply provides a context for the question The profile of your car seems to exactly fit the type of vehicle that the Urban Joke was intended-for, so it's a mystery to me why you are having these problems! I'm aware that Apps (like Urban Joke) first interrogate the Leuchte-sets (being the group of 19 x adaptation channels that control a single lamp) that are about to be changed to test that the existing settings are as per the factory coding. I suspect that passing these tests can be problematic if any of the adaptation channels aren't as expected. Even a difference as trivial as a variation in Dimmwert value has the potential to make the App "spit-the-dummy" (Aussie vernacular)! Maybe this has happened in your case -just a guess. Anyhow, it's kind-of a good thing that this has happened because the failed App has delivered to you the opportunity for a valuable learning experience! My suggestion is that you abandon the App altogether and that you consider implementing the tweak manually - thereby saving the credits and taking you out of the rank of "complete newb" and into the category of semi-professional OBD11 user! Should you accept the challenge, here's what you could do: - Select Central electrics module (@ address hex09)
- Select Security access
- Enter the magic number 31347
- Select Adaptation
- Search for Leuchte20BR LA71
- Compare the existing settings in your car against the values in the STOCK Settings column in the table below
- Only if the existing settings are confirmed, change the values to the NEW Settings column
- Repeat VI and VII for the remaining 3 x Letche-sets in the table below
- When completed -pour yourself a long-tall glass (or two) of chilled home-brew and contemplate the mysteries of the universe (and beyond)!
Don

I tried long coding and ended up with goofy signals. Granted I probably didn't use Don's instructions which may have been the issue. The changes I made I couldn't undo by entering stock values. What did work for me was using the UJ fix app and then the UJ v2 app. My NAR tails are perfect now.

Good day gents. Imß from manila. May I ask Don regarding my lights set up. Tried everything including urban joke ( which I eventually resetted because my left tail light is also blinking when i switch on my right signal). Ok to include one side parking to include (or not include) the dot and amber marker. However, on my regular parklights and headlights, the amber marker and the led dot are missing. How can I address this? Thanks.
Andy.

If my stocks settings do not match, what are my options as to getting this to work on 2017 NAR Alltrack S non-LED tails?

OK - first thing to highlight -Urban Joke is NOT my tweak.
Although the developer acknowledged some of my early work with the pace-car tweak as being helpful in creating Urban Joke (see HERE)- I simply translated the original instructions from VCDS language to OBD11 speak (very easy task)!. As to the question of what can be done if your car doesn't have the values in the STOCK setting column - it really depends on what exactly the factory settings are. I guess you need to post-up the settings for the relevant lamps on one side of your car (i.e. the outer and the inner tail light). Just for clarity- I need 2 x Leuchte-sets (doesn't matter which side) being 19 x adaptation channels for each Leuchte-set Don

^^^ OK - not radically different to the STOCK settings in my table.
My suggestion for each of the 4 x Leuchte-sets is DON'T change any of the Lamp set-up channels - but go ahead and change the other 16 x channels as per the NEW settings column in the table.
The lamp set-up channels are the first three channels: Lasttyp Lampendefektbitposition Fehlerort mittleres Byte DTC-DFCC

So I finished coding but now the Only question is this: my tail lights also are flashing the thin bottom red light underneath the outside tail lights on each side. When the inside light flashes, the outside light is off except that the lower thin light flashes with the inside ones. Is there a way to turn these off for both the left and right?

OK, well done - sounds like your car is RoW. What country are you from? If I were you I would first check that both the Urban Joke lighting effect and disabling the rear turn signal lamps is road legal in your country. Yes, it's a tad pedantic and you can just ignore the matter - but I always like to make informed decisions when risk taking! If you are happy to proceed and if the 2 x channels below are set 12 - Blinkleuchten, change to not active- Leuchte18BLK HLA60-Lasttyp 18 (left-side rear turn-signal lamp)
- Leuchte19BLK HRC31-Lasttyp 19 (right-side rear turn-signal lamp)

I had a 2017 GTI SE which I was able to do many mods on including Urban Joke, etc. Car was totaled 2 weeks ago. Picked up another 2017 GTI SE but on this car, when I open OBDeleven, I have different apps. And no apps for tail light mods. How can that be? I thought both cars same yr/trim would be the same hardware wise. Any ideas?

Yes, my idea is to avoid using the one-click app and d0 the tweak manually. But first you need to compare the car with the values in the column titled STOCK settings.
