Hi, this is my first post so please excuse me if I posted it in the wrong section. It's about a B5 Passat but the B5 subforum doesn't seem to have a lot of participants so I'm posting here. I recently tried a VCDS cable on the car but it has a classic problem with aftermarket radio: K1 shorted to +12. Even with the radio removed and the k-line unplugged it doesn't work. A cheap chinese bluetooth OBDII reader and a Bosch diagnostic tool do work and show fault codes and everything. Why doesn't the k-line cause problems with those? Will OBDeleven have the same problem?

Thank you for the quick reply, however I already tried removing the radio and also cutting the k-line wire, there is also no aftermarket harness but the problem is still there. Why do the other diagnostic devices work? The cheap chinese one is especially similar to the OBDeleven. Is it different if the device only reads basic information as opposed to the advanced features that the OBDeleven and VCDS enable?

Sorry cant help, this is a technical question that I dont have the answer for.
All I can say is that both OBD11 and VCDS are doing a lot of communication with the car systems and the cheap read only stuff does not.
Sorry cant help any more

Ok, I guess I'll just have to try it and report what I discover.
